What is Alchemy of Genres?
This blog will be working with our podcast; expanding on the topic or perhaps just mentioning that we talked about it; but also highlighting books/shows mentioned in the blog and our reviews of them.
It's called Alchemy of Genres because more and more the books are blending many things together (like a ghost that helps solve a mystery or a dog that travels through time); but it's also called that because let's face it, deciding what genre something "belongs in" is a marketing decision. Authors write, readers read; and for many of us, we just want a good book.
Yes, ok, we all have our favorites; but many of us are willing to try new things and there are ALWAYS new things.
Another reason for this blog and for the podcast is the the speculative genres (SF/Fantasy/Horror) get little respect or buzz unless they have a big name author (Stephen King for instance); and even then, many times certain sub-genres are put down as dumb or "less than" because someone decided it was that way. So, here we can talk about good books in a variety of types. We will be mainly focused on adult reads, but if we find an amazing book for teens that fits, it will be included (trust me, don't be afraid to browse the SF section of your local teen room or book store, there is some AMAZING stuff there).
